Whenever I can I try to incorporate green design into the projects we do. Whether it be through fabric or how and where a piece of furniture is produced, it can make a difference!

I hope you found some inspiration or motivation to try to be a little greener...whether it be recycling, buying a great lamp that's eco-friendly, or buying some plants to hang on the wall instead of the mass produced art that's in any decor section.

Birds of a Feather...

The other day I was looking through the FD Luxe magazine ( that I got from one of the fabric showrooms at the Dallas Design Center). I came across this picture….

I don’t know why but for some reason my inner free spirit came out and I feel in love with these feathered extensions! Am I crazy?

If you want these feather extensions and are ever in uptown Dallas, go to McKinney Avenue's Dear Clark Hair Studio. Have them put these washable feathers, that can last up to a month, in your hair! Prices start at $35 for three to five feathers, and soar to $350 for over-the-top effect. Next time you see me I might just have some beautiful feathers in my hair!

Heureux Mardi Gras!

So sorry I have been MIA lately…projects at work and going to 6th street down in Austin for mardi gras took me away from here!

Speaking of mardi gras, I thought I would share a little mardi gras inspiration with you! Purple, gold, & green with a little bit of a sheen :- )

clockwise starting from the top :
gold slipcovers from sodarling blogspot; floor lamp from homedecor; paint color found from google database; wave fold silk drapery; midas collection at design within reach; sofa from thisnext blog; bourgie table lamp from design within reach; gold louis side chair from maisons du monde online store; pillow from csn online store; gold cube from maisons du monde online store; abbey chair from astoria imports; glam sunburst mirror from cyan design; vases from cyan design.

I took a spin on this mardi gras design. Instead of the usual Kelley green, bright royal purple, & bright gold. I went with more of a deeper purple like eggplant, a muted green like pea soup, and some gold to give it that celebration sparkle! I accented it with neutrals, like a cream, which is the way to go if you have more than one strong color in the design already.

Well, that is all I had to share for today. I hope everyone enjoyed themselves on mardi gras & liked my design treats! See you next time!

La Bella, Ispirando Italia!

We just had a representative, rep for short, come in and show us all these gorgeous new leathers. She was also with the president of the comapny, Green Hides, and he was the nicest man with the cutest Italian accent! It made me miss Italy so much!

However, I can't really afford a flight over to the beautiful country of Italia right now. So I thought well, I will just bring Italy to me!

Italia is such an inspiring place...I studied abroad in Florence in the Summer of '07. It was an amazing opportunity and here are a few pictures that I took from my travels.

Just a few of the gorgeous buildings of Florence.....

Walking the streets of Frienze, Italia!

Yummmmmy treats!!!

Bellal Tuscana! From villas and gardens to wine & rolling vineyards, it was a sight to take in!

The cutest little Tuscan town ever....Pienza! It smelled of parmesan cheese...everywhere.

Cinque Terra, Italia! If you had to go to one place on the coast....I would suggest Cinque Terre. Gorgeous. Classic Italian.

Back in Florence there was this fabric shop with the sweetest old man that will make my wedding dress someday...gorgeous fabrics literally fit for a queen...the queen of holland that is!

That was a nice trip down memory lane....
I feel a little better. I still wish I was there...Sigh. Soon enough!

Ok, now I feel obligated to cook some yummy pasta tonight for dinner....
we shall see!

Lustful Lighting

Gone are the days when lighting was a background feature designed to showcase the rest of your home. Now, thanks to material & advances that make more affordable, versatile lighting, the way you light your home has become just as important as what’s being illuminated.

Here are a few of my top interesting lighting choices for inside or outside your home...

"Torn Lighting"
Each of the LED units is designed too like it is part of your room,
giving the illusion of the wallpaper peeling back to emit a steady glow.

"Book Lamp" design by Marti Guixe for Lujan Sicilia is made of books
& LED sources with chrome & acrylic elements

Module liquid floor tiles found at Bloom Lighting Company
& can be used for commercial or funky residential clients.
Designed by FlickMars for the NASA Hotel Lobby in Houston, TX
These are cool fiber optic lights that drape down toward the seating arrangement.

By Designlush these lighted space panels are made of white laquered fiberglass
with a chrome plated bulb.

"Cadmo Floor Lamp" by Artemide this lamp is so slick!
The almost 6' of smooth metal curves will surely make your house guests want one too!

Arteriors sells this Table Lamp that has almost a paint dripping effect.
It's simple but, makes an impact.

Designed by Bruce Munro and is formed of acrylic tubes containing
optical fibers but, not quite yet on the market.
LED pebble string lights 2" in diameter that are water rated
so you can use them around water.
Oluce Stone Outdoor Lamps would be very nice for a modern home.
You can find them at Ylighting.

I hope you were inspired by my lighting choices! If I could I would own all of these designs!

Well time to turn off the lights...at the office & go home!

Radical Rugs & Magical Mats

Awhile back on one of my apps called plethora, I saw this really interesting blog about rugs & carpets. I haven't really thought about it for awhile until recently one of my friends, & a fellow blogger, posted a familiar rug. So I thought I would do some looking around & share my sweet treats!

"flying carpet" is a relaxing rolling terrain by modern tots

Once the sign of opulence and wealth, now rugs have become little more than something to wipe your feet on with the age of mass-production. Luckily these creative designs are not just taking up space beneath our feet, they are yummy pieces of art!! Which of these rugs would make you feel like a queen/ king.....or the jester?

Here are a few rugs that are inspired by Nature:

Clockwise from the Rocks above:
“Pebble Rug” by 2Form Design is made of an array of wool balls decorated to look like stone;
“The Dialogue Carpet” by Yanko Design is made of paper yarn that can swallow you whole when you lay down on it; “Global Warming Rug” by NEL and their message about how our world is changing is quite clear with the felt polar bear all alone; “The Snowflake Rug” by Design Boom is formed of transparent plastic fibers woven together to simulate a snowdrift; “Faux Marked Rug” by Amazed reminds me of the footprints in the sand photograph;Studio Laurens Van Wieringen created “The Carpet Rug” (the name might need a little work) that is a series of colored ployurethane columns that makes it look like a relief landscape; I have always loved this carpet by Seyed Alavis called “Flying Carpet” it is at Sacramento Airport & if you walk the length of the carpet you will get an aerial view of the Sacramento River.

Have you ever had a morning that you wish you didn't have to go to work or that the coffee would make itself & magically appear at your night stand? Well, I have and mornings would be so much easier with these functional mats:
Left to Right:
“Wake Up and Walk" by Alarm might actually do that for you with a built-in clock and alarm that deactivates only when you step on it...slightly annoying for a person that likes to hit the snooze button a couple times...; Yanko Design came up with the next mat- you will wipe your worries of a cold floor away with this beside rug with built-in slippers!

These rugs were inspired by food...some yummy and some...well you can decide! They do bring a playfulness & a punch of color into any room!
Clockwise from the Furry Squares above:
This sheepskin patchwork rug by Great Outfit looks good even before you hear the name- "Chocolate Blocks" Now if the designers made it smell like chocolate I would be in serious trouble; "Sunny Side Up" by Blink Decor would cheer up any morning; "Freckle Rug" from Lark comes in these two gumball inspired colorways; The three "Salami" rugs are found at the EternallyCool website.

I would love to have that egg rug! I think it would be fun for a kids room someday but, that Freckle rug would be nice for me now though! Well, I hope you enjoyed the rugs and maybe found a unusual one that you would someday add to your home.

Lynz
